DO NOT GO TO HOLIDAY PARK!!
My (forever) 11 year old daughter Amber died in front of my eyes on August 15th 2014 in an accident at Holiday Park. This accident was bound to happen- due to lacking safety standards at Holiday Park.
Amber and I wanted to ride the Spinning Barrels (a break-dancer type of ride). The ride was standing still and not all seats were taken as Amber and I walked through the open entrance door and picked a barrel. As we stood on either side of said barrel, the platform we stood on jerked. We were both surprised and I signaled to Amber that we should get off the platform. As we did, the ride started –without prior acoustic warning-. We were on different sides of the platform and while I ended up in the bushes surrounding the ride, my daughter was caught underneath and crushed to death, as the platforms kept turning on top of her body. One of the platforms later had to be jacked up with a car-jack in order to get my daughter’s corpse out.
Apparently, the operator did not see us, as there was a big pillar between the operator-booth and the barrel we wanted to get into. One more employee (to oversee the other side of the ride) would have saved Amber’s life.
Amber's death wasn’t just a freak accident. Her death could have been prevented at any one of those levels:
• If there would have been an acoustic warning before the ride started and Amber might still be alive.
• If there would have been one more employee, Amber would still be alive.
• If Holiday Park employees would have checked in the morning whether the Spinning Barrels ride starts with an open door, which -according to park technicians and operators- it is not supposed to, Amber would still be alive.
• The German authorities are investigating 2 more employees (in addition to operator). Those 2 employees were responsible for training.
My daughter is dead because I trusted Holiday Park with our safety. I assumed that safety was their priority. If I would have known back then what I know now, about how the park operates, I NEVER would have taken my daughter there. (We would have went to Europa Park instead.) The worst thing that can possibly happen DID happen and on August 15th, I became a childless mother. I would not wish this nightmare on my worst enemy!
The only thing left for me to do is to make sure that Amber’s death was not for nothing, to make sure other parents DO know, that Holiday Park is not safe. To make sure, other parents can continue to be parents and watch their children grow up.
So I am urging you not to go to Holiday Park. They seem to value their money more than your safety. Safety procedures are not followed or blatantly ignored at Holiday Park.
Please don’t take that risk!!
